About Our Congregation

Serving religious liberals in the Texas/Oklahoma Red River valley.

Our Religious Education programs are crafted and led by the highly educated and delightfully motivated members and friends of RRUU.

The Adult Forum ranges from conversation on social justice issues to studies of various types of printed material to videos and discussion. Topics for current and upcoming Adult Forum topics are on our website. We also hold "New to Unitarian Universalism" classes on a regular basis to help our newest friends and members become familiar with our uncommon denomination and as a refresher for longer-time participants as to who we are and how we came into being.

We consider our children to be a precious gift to the congregation and take their religious education very seriously. Children participate in the first part of the Sunday service up to the "Time for All Ages" after which they light the children’s chalice and go to classrooms to learn together. Traditions of different religions, the history and practices of Unitarian Universalism, and information on local events and issues are shared with the children as well as explorations of some of the excellent curricula available through the larger church.

Although as a small congregation, we have a well-established small group ministries we call Chalice Circles which include a number of different focuses: Mindfullness (Meditation); Free Thinkers (UU Humanist); The Green Team (environmental action); It Takes A Village (parents supporting parents); A Moveable Feast (cooking and eating); Pffft (pursuing faith, fun, fellowship together – primarily outdoor activities); Earth Spirit; and RRUU Jam (music-making). The Laid Back Book Club is a book reading and discussion group.

Sunday mornings we celebrate a wide range of belief systems and worship traditions. We have a guest minister monthly and seek to draw a variety of ordained persons to share with us. Various Chalice Circles also serve as worship leaders sharing their particular focus with the rest of the congregation. Meditation services centered on nature or congregational photographs are other favorites at RRUU as is the sharing of readings, poetry and music.

We regularly invite recognized authorities on various topics to fill our pulpit and are fortunate to have two ordained ministers as members who also assist with worship leadership. One week our sanctuary was filled with balloons as we took a walk of celebration, and on other occasions, practicing Hindi, Humanists, Jews, Muslims or Buddhists have led the service. RRUU is a diverse and exciting focal point of liberal religious thought characterized by each one sharing personal gifts and abilities.
