A really brief history:
NTAUUS was established in the mid l960s to take advantage of a Federal government program to encourage churches to build and operate low-cost housing projects. The resulting Raible Place apartments were a great success, both socially and financially, and were eventually sold in 2003 to investors before the mortgage was even completely paid. A large portion of over two million dollars was deposited into the NTAUUS Endowment Fund.
In 2004, the Endowment Fund was reorganized and guidelines were established as to how the monies could be spent. A commercial investment firm was hired and the funds have flourished during the subsequent years.
For more details on the fund please see our History Page and former Association President Mike Ellsberry's Address.
NTAUUS started offering grants and loans from the Endowment Fund in an organized way in 2003.
All of our member congregations are invited to apply for grants. The 2011-2012 Announcement and Application Procedure (PDF 24KB) and the Grant and Loan Guidelines (PDF 78KB) can be viewed in PDF format.
Tips for writing your grants can be found here (PDF 122KB).
A copy of the Grant Application in Microsoft Word Document format can be downloaded here (DOC 36KB) and should be used for your submission. A copy of the application in PDF format (PDF 20KB) is also available for easier printing.
Once you have received a grant from the Endowment program, we do expect a report on how the funds have been spent. A sample form of this report can be downloaded here as a PDF (29KB) and here as a .DOC (34KB) file.
The First Annual NTAUUS Awards Luncheon was held Saturday, February 28, 2004. The luncheon recognized, among others, congregations receiving grant money made available from interest earned on the principle of the Raible Place Charitable Trust. The luncheon was held at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas.
The Trust represents monies after NTAUUS divested itself of Raible Place Apartments in December 2002. The Raible Place Apartments were an example of what a government subsidized housing program should and could be.
Grants totaling $50,000 were available to NTAUUS member congregations. Wise investment of the principle will allow for future growth of Unitarian Universalism in North Texas.
Rev. William Sinkford, UUA President, spoke at the luncheon.
