About Our Congregation

Welcome to Our Church

First Jefferson is a liberal religious community of diverse individuals. We nurture spiritual growth, encourage lifelong education, work for social justice, serve the larger community, and celebrate life's gifts together through meaningful worship. We welcome and support others in their expression of religious freedom.

Activities and Programs Overview
First Jefferson offers many activities for you, whether you are interested in pursuing your spiritual development, social action, or socializing. See the calendar on our website for dates and more information, and check the Courier newsletter too.

Every Sunday:

Religious Education for Children and Youth / Child Care
FJC’s church school seeks to support parents and children in their spiritual quest through our classes, carefully selected curricula, social and service activities, and most of all by providing an atmosphere of both tolerance and questioning.

Adult Forum
The hour may include a group discussion on current events or a presentation about an interesting topic.

Worship Service
FJC’s service is similar in its overall structure to most church services. We have a choir, an offertory, and a call to worship. The minister usually delivers a 20 minute sermon. We sing hymns, share happy and sad events with one another, and announce upcoming events in the life of the congregation.

Forum One - Telling Our Story: Multiple Truths and Multiple Realities

Come join the Diversity Task Force as we present the “Building the World We Dream About” curriculum. The kick-off, September 5th, introduced the current members of the Diversity Task Force and reflected on First Jefferson's vision to tackle Diversity. Those present built a covenant and worked a sample exercise on the possibilities of racism within one's own race.

Now it's time to kick off the year and a half journey to build the world we dream about with this first forum: Telling Our Story - Multiple Truths and Multiple Realities. A covenantal format, forums are opportunities to deeply consider typically-denied judgments that lead to oppression. Please refer to the First Jefferson website (fjuuc.org) for dates, times and locations of forums. By coming together seeking information and insights, we put to rest ill-informed notions of what separates rather unites us.

Childcare and a light lunch will be provided. See fjuuc.org for more information.
